30 Days of Positive Attraction Day 11 – Telling Lies

Tell me lies, tell me sweet little lies ~ Fleetwood Mac

If you’re reading this shortly after I posted it, you’ll realize that Days 6 – 10 are missing. That’s because I wrote them, then realised that they didn’t sound like me at all; in fact they sounded like a mashup of a thousand other personal development bloggers.

And I am Not Them. So I deleted those posts and I’ll be re-creating them in my voice.

That’s not the reason I called this post “telling lies” though. We get so hung up on “telling it like it is”, “being realistic”, “telling the truth” – oh and I am so guilty of that last one! I insist on total, gut-wrenching honesty from everyone around me and get very pissed (in the US, not UK sense) when I don’t get it. Well actually, possibly the UK sense as well but we don’t need to go there.

The things is that I know that “telling it like it is” is the fastest way to get it to “keep being like it is” – which is absolutely wonderful if “like it is” is “like you want it to be”, but not so great if “like it is” totally sucks.

“But I have to tell the truth!” you exclaim (you did exclaim, didn’t you?) “I want people to trust me and that means being honest.” Sure it does, but what does being honest actually mean? Does it mean proclaiming “I’m fat, broke and lonely” if that’s what happens to be “true” for you right now? If so, what do you think is going to be “true” for you tomorrow? And next week? And next year?

If you are “fat, broke and lonely” right now, it’s because that’s the story you’ve been telling up until now. But consider this: that is not the truth of who YOU are. YOU are an amazing, expanded, loving, abundant, beautiful being who can create anything that she wants – purely by the focus of her thoughts. So although “fat, broke and lonely” might describe your current circumstances, it in no way in the Universe describes YOU. It is not true as an expression of who YOU are, it’s simply a description of what you’ve been thinking and where you’ve been focusing and what you’ve managed to create at this moment.

Your story is only “true” because that’s the way you’ve been telling the story up until now.

Your story is your creation – and if you don’t like the way you’ve been telling it, it’s time to change the story. Your life is changing every second; but if you’re telling the same story all you’re doing is changing to the same thing, over and over.

When you change your story, the parts to focus on are WHAT? and WHY? – never HOW? WHAT you want and WHY you want it.

WHY? is a far more powerful question than HOW?:

  • WHY? pulls you forward into the future, HOW? keeps you stuck in the present.
  • WHY? opens the way for the Universe to bring you what you want through the path of least resistance. HOW? limits you to the boundaries of your imagination and leaves no room for the Universe to manoeuver.
  • WHY? is right brain, HOW? is left brain.

There are plenty of ways to tell a new story. Remember, what you’re aiming to do is change your vibration; saying “the right words” if you don’t believe them is a waste of time because your vibration will still be saying “fat, broke and lonely”.

Personally, I’m a daydreamer; I love to sit and imagine something in detail, until I can feel it. I’ve imagined things that made me cry (I wouldn’t necessarily recommend that one) or laugh or feel sexy. The key is to stop while it still feels good, whether that’s 30 seconds or 30 minutes into the visualization. For me, 30 seconds to a minute, several times a day, works best; you just have to experiment and see what combination of timespan and frequency works for you.

I also love to write, so often my daydream will take the form of a journal entry, describing the reality I want to create in the present tense – but again, making sure I feel it, that it’s not just words on a page.

And how do you know if the new story is the right one? By the way you feel about it. The “right” story is the one that resonates with YOU, the expanded, unlimited version of YOU. If it feels good when you tell it, even if it feels scary-good, it’s YOU – and the more you tell it, the more you will catch up with YOU and the faster you’ll be living it.

Today’s Inspired Action:

Make the decision to create something different and spend at least 15 minutes (in one hit or spread out over the day) imagining how you want your life to be.
